As you enter your 30s and into your 40's, your hormone levels change, and your elastin and collagen production begins to decrease more rapidly. This may cause your skin to look thinner and start to sag, and as cell turnover decreases, your fine lines and wrinkles become more visible. It’s important to maintain your regular regime of cleansing, toning, and moisturizing. Most importantly, don’t overcomplicate your routine by assuming your skin needs extra attention!

Wash Your Face, Exfoliate, and Tone

These are key steps that are at the forefront of every great skin care routine and remains vitally important as you age. Even if you don’t wear makeup, your face still comes into contact with residue from things such as moisturizer, sunscreen, pollutants, microbes, dirt, oils, sweat, and dead skin cells.

Some of the most common concerns for women in their 30s and 40s are an uneven skin tone, dark sports, or discoloration. If you leave makeup on your skin at night, it will dry out the skin and clog your pores. Look for a powerful product that cleans, tackles dehydrated skin, and rebalances your complexion.

In addition to cleansing, exfoliating is great for challenging the aging process by removing the build-up of dead skin cells and allowing your skin to retain its healthy glow. After you moisturize and cleanse, use a toner to remove any remaining dirt, oil, and debris left behind.

Address Sun Damage and Fine Lines

By the age of 30, most people begin to experience evidence of UV damage. Consider adding a bleaching cream, such as hydroquinone or a tyrosinase inhibitor, to decrease pigmentation in the skin.

Try a pigment corrector for 5 months before beginning a new regime for best results. Other products you could try are a pore refiner, hydrating hyaluronic acid, or retinol product. This is also the time where individuals begin to notice the lines, folds, and jowls in the face.

If this is the case, try fillers to maintain the volume of the skin. We tend to lose bone, fat, and muscle as we get older, so fillers are an excellent way to help provide structure where it’s been lost. Neurotoxins are also helpful to slow down the wrinkles created.

Apply a Retinol Product

Aside from sunscreen, the best product for smoothing the texture of the skin and making lines less visible is retinol. Derived from vitamin A, it’s typically used as a topical product to promote skin renewal, reduce acne, and boost your skin’s collagen production.

If you are someone who suffers from adult acne, try using tretinoin to promote quick healing of pimples affect the growth of skin cells.
